How-To Guide with Tips for Cooking the Perfect Links on a Stick at Camp
This is less of a recipe and more of a suggestion post. After splitting, burning, scorching, under cooking and dropping hot dogs and sausages into the fire, I think I have the link cooking mastered. Here is what I do. I bought this handy device. called a Camp Chef Extendable Roasting Stick. It goes both car camping and backpacking with me and is well worth the $5 I spent at REI to buy it. You can also use a long thin branch if you feel like being more traditional, but I love this. If you do decide on the branch, make sure you whittle the bark off and clean it before you stick a dog on it for sanitation purposes.
Here are a few tips for your dog cooking:
Poke a few holes in sausages for less splitting risk
Slow and steady is the wiener of the this race
Hold well above the flames
Rotate constantly to cook evenly
The link is done when juice stops dripping out
Make sure you wash before using again
