Campfire Flame Grilled Camp Wings with Lime

If your campsite comes equipped with a grate over the fire, this is the perfect appetizer recipe for you. It will add a fantastic fire taste, but you can also cook the wings in cast iron over the fire in a pinch.

If you’re serving a few appetizers in place of a dinner add on our Classic Bruschetta with Flame Charred Baguettes. This will add some variety and weight to a camp meal.

1/2 c hot sauce (I use Frank’s)
1/2 c melted butter
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1 lb wings, pre-cut
1 lime
1/4 c chopped parsley

In a saucepan, heat the wing sauce, butter and Worcestershire until simmering. Take the pan off the heat and add in the precut wings. You can also mix the sauce at home, cool to room temp and store in a Tupperware for a few days before your camp trip to bring in the cooler. Mix the raw wings into the sauce and discard whatever is leftover after it has been mixed with the raw chicken.

Put your wings directly on the heated grate with the campfire below. It’s best to have them over some red heat minus the smokey beginnings of your fire, so let it warm up a bit. Leave them to cook about five minutes or so judging by if they are easily released from the grate. Pulling them up too soon will cause you to lose some of your skin which is not ideal. For the next 10 minutes, keep rotating the wings until they are perfectly charred and well cooked.

Line the wings onto a serving platter, squeeze the lime over and sprinkle on your fresh herbs. Let them cool for a few minutes, crack a beer and enjoy.
